15th December 2013 – Chester Party Magician
Another local event today; this time for the Chester Round Table, who had chatted to me on Twitter about an event that they were hosting for charity – a Christmas lunch for pensioners at the Best Western Westminster hotel in Chester.
I was to perform as a Chester table magician, mingling with the guests, both before and between courses of the meal.
Clearly the hotel thought I needed some assistance getting into the building:
I was grateful for the help!
Even though this wasn’t a stereotypical Chester wedding or Chester Corporate event; it was a lot of fun to perform at. I used to be a mental health social worker in a previous life, so I know more than most about the hardships that older people can suffer, so it was great to be there to help bring smiles to people’s faces.
The round table guys really put on a great event, with carol singing, music and bingo! There was even a visit from Santa himself.
Events like this are fantastic to be a part of. Chatting to the pensioners, you could see how much they appreciated the day. Sometimes, it’s easy to get lost in the idea of what events like this are all about. I was truly glad to be there.
